My TOP 10 Tips For Selecting What To Wear For Your Session

#1. CHOOSE THE RIGHT SHAPE

For a slimming look, form fitting & figure hugging clothing is the best bang for your buck. Look for clothes that give you shape or have structure of some sort. In the photo here the shirt has movement but also hugs with structure in the mid section.

#2. STICK TO SOLIDS

Avoid loud or bold patterns as they will detract from your face. Think subtle patterns or solid colors that will bring your eye in like the example here.

#3. TEXTURES

Texture is my favorite thing was it adds depth to the subject and in this case that is YOU! Textures like lace, ruffles, sequins, or suede give a fun opportunity to add a pop.

#4. LAYERS

Varieties of layers add to your look, layers add interest and depth to your photos. These are great because you can take them on and off for variety in your images. So think jacket, vest, or coat!

#5. SLEEVES

Avoid cap sleeves, sleeveless is great for toned arms, 3/4 sleeves are universally flattering and slimming like the example here. If you don’t feel great about your arms add a sleeve!

#6. NECKLINES

Go for a v-neck or scoop neckline to elongate your next. High neck lines can make your neck appear short in photos. The example here is a deep v-neck cut.

#7. THINK OUTSIDE OF THE BOX

Don’t be afraid to go big! Express yourself. Go for GLAM with an epic dress, something unusual and extraordinary. If you show this is a great time to grab those show cloths or big BLING!

#8. ACCESSORIZE

Add accessories like necklaces, earrings, bracelets, belts, etc. Think about adding a few items for each look. Hats and chaps are also a great way to accessorize in your session. Have a belt buckle you’ve won? Wear that too!

#9. SHOES

Choose shoes that you will be safe walking in fields and uneven ground in. If you are going to wear a heel make sure someone can walk your horse for you. I am a huge fan of ankle boots or cowboy boots that give support & horse safety!

#10. CHOOSE 2 LOOKS

My most popular portrait sessions, the Classic Horse & Rider or the Empowerment Bash, includes enough time for two different looks, where the Standard Horse & Rider Session or Confidence Boost, includes enough time for one look, and my Premium Horse & Rider Session, includes enough time for three distinct looks.

Most of my clients choose two distinctively different looks, they may do a GLAM look with an epic dress for their first look, and an relaxed or casual look for their second.
